Athlete of the Month: Rachel Phillips

Rachel Phillips is the July athlete of the month in part for her recent success. She just got back from a SoftballNational Qualifier in Boston, Massachusetts where her team, California Desperados U14, came in first and now have a berth to Nationals in August. Her team will be competing against 120 others teams for the ASA 14U National title. According to her and her father Bryon she played real well and hit the ball hard and attributes this to her going to Velocity. She actually only struck out twice. Not sure how much training had to do with that but we’ll take some of the credit for hitting the ball hard. Either way “now the hard work begins” Dad says.
 
Rachel in the last few months has managed to improve her 40 yd dash time by almost 4/10 of a second from 6.61 seconds to 6.23 seconds and improve her quickness from 16.48 to 11.84 which is a substantial. Much of Rachel’s success comes from her hard work in the weight room however she still needs to strengthen her hip mobility and more specifically rotation. One of her other goals is to continue improving her range of motion in max velocity running mechanics as it has importance in stride recovery. She knows that will help he get the 40yd time even lower and even help her base running technique.
