We want to congratulate the athletes that prepared for the 2009 NFL Draft with Velocity Sports Performance – Redondo Beach. Executive Sports Performance Director Ken Vick lead the Redondo Beach coaching staff in preparing top college athletes from around the nation for the NFL Scouting Combine and their college pro days.
The Buffalo Bills first round pick, former Louisville center Eric Wood was impressed with the level of training. “Training with Velocity is great. It's a great environment; it is exactly what I wanted. It's awesome because it's a group of the most competitive people in the country so you know everyday is a competition. We get on the bench, it's a competition, when we start running, and it's a competition, it all about competing then going to the combine to really compete.” The 9th overall pick, BJ Raji said, “It’s been great. They’re great people. They really care about you.”
“I’m incredibly impressed with the hard work and focus these guys demonstrated. They stayed on task and followed the program day in and day out and the results show. They all will have the opportunity at a great career in the NFL and are equipped to succeed” says Coach Vick.
The athletes participated in 2-3 workouts a day. This included speed training, strength & power, and position specific work. In addition the athletes received custom nutrition programs, FOCUS mental conditioning, physical therapy, and massage.
According to Ken Vick, they take a different route than many programs. “Our approach is to tailor a program to them, instead of just fitting them in our program. This leads to better results, reduces risk of injury, and creates a better overall experience.”
According to new Jets quarterback, USC’s Mark Sanchez, this approach works; “I think that the way people at Velocity, Ken Vick and his staff, have really shown the effort to make my workout individual and specific. As a quarterback my workouts may be a little different then a D lineman and they make that apparent in their training, and it shows in our results & times.”
Eric Wood echoed those sentiments, “You know they care and know they are dedicated because none of us do the same work out everyday. I never walk into the weight room and have the same workout as a wide receiver which a great feeling and a great change from college.”
