ACL Prevention Program

It’s one of the most catastrophic injuries that can happen to an athlete and we see it in the sports headlines every season. A torn ACL has taken a key player out for up to 9 months, and therefore typically marks the end of that season (and often extends into the next as well).

For many, this has significant impact on that athlete’s prospect to be recruited by college coaches. And all of this does not account for the expense of the surgery and rehabilitation, or the mental and emotional “cost” of enduring the experience.

The true bottom line is that the incidence of ACL tears by young athletes is increasing each year as more athletes get into sports without proper neuromuscular and strength training, and we/you are in the position to do proactively do something to reduce the risk of the injury afflicting our athlete.

Statistically, female athletes (particularly those who play soccer, basketball and volleyball) are 8 times more likely to tear their ACL than males. Statistics also show that female athletes have a 25% chance of tearing their ACL a second time after having the reconstruction surgery done. Differences between the sexes in hormones, adolescence, quadriceps dominance, biomechanics, anatomy, asymmetry, and psychology all may contribute to this anomaly.likr than males. Statistics also show that female athletes

The 5 “pillars” of our ACL Tear Prevention Program are:

Teaching the athletes how to properly absorb force: most non-contact ACL injuries happen during stops or changes of direction
Creating balanced muscle groups: your hamstrings should be at least 60% as strong as your quads. When they’re not, injuries result
Grooving safe neuromuscular recruitment patterns: balance training can help improve the neuromuscular recruitment patterns of the quad and hamstrings
Improving the mobility of the ankle and hip: mobility at the two joints surrounding the knee creates stability at the knee
Coaching dedication to quality movement: only through practicing perfect movement patterns will athletes become more resilient to an ACL tear.
