Joseph Erskine
Youth Athletes of the Month - October
Joseph is an 11 y.o. student at Woodside Avenue Elementary in Franklin Lakes and was recently asked to join the math enrichment program there. He plays left wing on his hockey team and middie on his LAX team. Joey is the leading scorer on his NJ Bandits team and they also won in Lake Placid recently. Another highlight is that Joey scored the only goal in a 1-0 win against the Canadians in the Silver Sticks North American Finals. Joey likes to build with his legos and hopes to become an engineer at Stonybrook where his big brother currently goes. Slideboards are Joey’s favorite exercise at Velocity. He’s been training with us for 4 months and already feels faster and stronger and isn’t falling as much on the ice. Joey is quiet but listens well, is a great athlete and works hard which is why he is the Velocity Sports Performance October Youth Athlete of the Month.
Ryan Fitzgerald
D1 Athlete of the Month - October
Ryan is 13 years old and attends Suffern Middle School. His favorite subject there is math. Ryan manages to make the honor roll and also plays forward on this travel hockey team, the Ramapo Saints. He plans on going to college and has his eye on Notre Dame as his school of choice. Ryan has been working out at Velocity since the beginning of 2009. He says he likes the inchworm pushups the best but I think that was his form of sarcasm. He also says he feels faster and stronger since he started training here and that I can believe. Ryan’s fun attitude and positive attitude have earned him October’s D1 Athlete of the Month.
Chris Mastropietro
D2 Athlete of the Month - October
Chris is a 15 year old sophomore at Tuxedo High School. He competes as a competitive ski racer in the winter and as a member of the rowing team in the spring. His favorite sport is skiing and it shows. Last year Chris qualified for the state finals in high school competition and finished 13th in the state for slalom racing with his club team. Outside of racing and rowing, Chris enjoys working on the computer where he likes to design and build. He plans to carry this interest into college as he would like to enter an engineering program at a school such as RIT. Chris has been training at Velocity for 3 years as pre season training for skiing. His favorite part of the program is the strength section and least favorite is the warm up. He has noticed a big improvement in his muscle endurance, lower body strength, agility and quickness. Chris’ strong work ethic, his commitment to his sports and his individual goals has earned him the Velocity Sports Performance Developmental II October Athlete of the Month.
Pam Starr
Adult Athlete of the Month - October
Pam is an energetic mother of 3 that loves to workout. Her sons Alex and Ryan have both trained at Velocity and Emma, 5, will get there in a couple years. Pam is a graduate from Tulane University with a degree in business and a focus in accounting. She worked 10 years for Arthur Anderson before becoming a full time mom. Outside of working out, which Pam does almost everyday, she does not play any sports. However, she is a big sports fan and enjoys rooting for the Jets as well as any game her kids may be playing in. She is also very involved in her community and donates much of her time to school and community related groups and functions. She also serves on the board of the Saddle River Valley JCO and had had great success working on there annual food and toy drive. Look for a donation box in Velocity this winter. Pam has been training at Velocity Sports Performance for over almost 2 years and her favorite part of the workout is that it’s new and different every time she comes. She appreciates the small group classes and the individual attention she gets from the coaches. Pam’s commitment to meeting her fitness goals and her strong support of her family and community make here a perfect choice for the Velocity Sports Performance Adult Athlete of the Month for October.
