Sam Garcia
Youth Athletes of the Month - March
Samantha is a 9 year old from Suffern, New York. She currently goes to Cherry Lane Elementary School as a fourth grader. She attains very good grades, her favorite subject is Math and she is a member of two different math clubs at her school. In the future, she hopes to be an elementary school teacher, and swim coach after attending a college that is no further than two to four hours away.  Her favorite sport is swimming, which she does year round. She swims in all of the events, but she believes she’s best in breast-stroke. One of her proudest moments was when she took part in the mile swim and was the youngest to finish amongst all of the older children. During her free time she enjoys arts and crafts, hanging out with her friends, and playing hide and go seek with her dog Quincy, although he cheats too much. Her favorite hobby of all, she says, is coming here to Velocity. She enjoys all of the workouts but her favorite drill is ladders. Samantha started training in August of 2009, and has seen major improvements in her speed as well as running techniques.  Samantha’s enthusiasm and hard work are two reasons she was selected as the Velocity Sports Performance Youth Athlete of the Month.

DJ Kleinbard
D1 Athlete of the Month - March
DJ is a 13 year old eighth grader at Eric S. Smith Middle School.  Over the past three years he has earned honor roll every marking period.  If he had to choose a favorite subject it would be US history.  DJ plays baseball year round for four different teams and is hoping to join the cross country and winter track team in high school.  His favorite sport is obviously baseball and he is a huge Yankee fan.  In the 10 year he has been playing baseball, his favorite moment was winning the rec championship and coming in a close second with his spring travel team.  Other than sports, he is a percussionist for band and plans to continue in high school.  After high school, he is unsure of where he would like to go but he knows he would like to continue to play baseball and maybe even track as well.  His dream job would be a professional baseball player but if that doesn’t work out, he would like to be a sports journalist.  DJ’s favorite part of Velocity workouts are acceleration and max velocity.  Over the past couple months he says he has seen major improvements in his speed and has also gotten a lot stronger.  The coaches say DJ is very coachable and a good listener which is why they voted him Velocity Sports Performance D1 Athlete of the Month.

Vince Fiori
D2 Athlete of the Month - March
Vince is a 17 year old junior from Ramsey, New Jersey. He currently attends Ramsey high school where he plays baseball. In addition to pitching for the Ramsey Rams, Vince also throws for the South Florida Bandits as well as the New Jersey Cardinals. One of his favorite moments was throwing a personal best of 88mph. During his free time he enjoys snowboarding every now and then. After graduating high school Vince is still undecided about college and what he would major in, but is interested in Southern Cal, Wake Forest, and Vanderbilt University. His favorite part of coming to Velocity is the strength training.  He has noticed how it impacted baseball in his hitting and pitching.  Vince is very dedicated to his training and has greatly improved which is the reason he was chosen as the Velocity Sports Performance D2 Athlete of the Month for March 2010.

Liz Piringer
Adult Athlete of the Month - March
Liz is 39 and attended Pace University in New York.  She majored in business and is now working as a teacher’s aid in Ridgewood, NJ.  Before surgery on her knee, she was a gymnast where she participated in all events.  Although she isn’t on the mat, she enjoys watching her daughter follow in her footsteps in gymnastics.  Liz has been training at Velocity a little over a year now.  Her favorite part of the workouts is the running in general but especially the parachutes.  Throughout her time here, she’s noticed how much faster and stronger she has gotten and plans to continue to improve.  In time, she also plans to take part in a few half marathons.  Liz always works hard in class and with a smile on her face which is why she has earned the Velocity Sports Performance Adult Athlete of the Month for March.
