Jason Kemly
Youth Athletes of the Month - November
Jason is an 11 year old student at Woodside Ave. Elementary. He is an excellent student and is in the gifted and talented program for Math and Science, the LA enrichment program as well as the mathletes program. Jason is a 3 sport athlete playing soccer, baseball and basketball. His favorite sport is baseball where he excels in the outfield. His best baseball memory comes from a game last year where he made 6 catches in the outfield. He plans on attending college and would like to enter a good engineering program. His plans for the future include playing professional baseball and/or being an inventor. Jason’s favorite parts of the Velocity program are the acceleration classes and the activity/games at the end of the class. He has been attending Velocity sessions for 4 months and has seen great improvement in his running technique and overall speed. He has noticed that he is faster on the soccer field and is able to slip by defenders easier than before. Jason’s commitment to his athletic and academic success makes him the perfect choice for the Velocity Sports Performance November Athlete of the Month.

Jacob Defelice
D1 Athlete of the Month - November
Jacob is a 14 year old freshman at Suffern High School.  He is an A&B student and says his favorite class might be History.  Jacob plays point guard in basketball but his favorite sport is baseball where he is a short stop.  He is proud to say that his team won the state Little League World Series this year in 2009.  He doesn’t have many hobbies but notes that he is pretty good at ping pong since they have a table at home he often practices on.  Jacob plans on going to college and he has his eyes on LSU and he thinks he may study Law there.  Jacob has been coming to Velocity for about 3 months and he feels the biggest changes are how strong his legs feel.  He enjoys doing sleds and slideboards in his workouts.  Jacob’s hard work and good attitude have earned him November’s D1 Athlete of the Month.

Shannon Mahoney
D2 Athlete of the Month - November
Shannon is a 15 year old sophomore at Suffern High School. She is an excellent student and her favorite subject is math. Shannon competes on both the cross country and track team. She runs the 400 and the mile in track as well as competing in her favorite event, the high jump. Her favorite sports memory was winning the high jump event at an invitational indoor meet last winter. When Shannon is not running and jumping she enjoys playing tennis and hanging out with her friends. Shannon’s future plans involve attending college and getting a degree in mathematics. She would like to remain in the math world after college and pursue a career as a math teacher. Shannon’s favorite part of the Velocity workout is the movement section and especially the acceleration lessons. After starting at Velocity over a year and a half ago, Shannon has noticed dramatic increases in her upper and lower body strength as well as increases in her speed and ability to jump higher. Shannon’s focus on achieving her athletic goals as well as her commitment to her academic success has earned her the Velocity Sports Performance November Developmental 2 Athlete of the Month.

Suzanne Mindich
Adult Athlete of the Month - November
Suzanne is 41 years young and a mother of 3.  Her 12 year old Samantha and her 10 year old Jason have trained at Velocity and hopefully her youngest Romy, 5, will too.  Suzanne went to the University of Maryland and then went to graduate school at Yeshiva University School of Social Work which led her to be an administrative social worker for many years.  She is very active with her kids and likes to go skiing.  Suzanne has been training at Velocity since August of 2008.  Although she doesn’t like the cardio workouts, this is one area she sees the most improvement in.  She tends to like the strength training workouts better and feels leaner because of that.   Suzanne’s consistent work ethic and her dedication to her health and her family make her a great choice for the Velocity Sports Performance Adult Athlete of the Month for November.
