Velocity U14 Season Wrap Up By Coach Mike Huber

The 14U team finished their season strong while winning 3 of their last 7 games.  The team struggled to win games most of the year as most of the kids had never played travel ball before.  As the season progressed, they became very competitive and their losses were much closer than in the beginning of the season.

The 14U team never lost their competitive edge as they played against kids who had 4 more years of travel ball experience, and in the end, played to the level of a competitive travel ball team.

Highlights of the season were that 7 pitchers learned how to pitch and throw consistant strikes throughout the year.  The defense cut their errors per game in half by the end of the season, and the hitters hit up and down the line-up as the team had a .525 on base percentage and scored a good share of runs through the year.  This team proved that inexperienced travel players CAN play in a good travel team league (KCBL) competitevely with the right type of training and commitment.

Velocity 12U Season Wrap Up by Coach Joe Piekarz

The 12U baseball team started their season all the way back in September with performance training. Each one of the players worked hard to improve their athleticism for the season. Once the new year began, team practices started. The players continued to work hard refining their baseball skills as well as continuing with the performance training. Each one of the players were ready to hit the field once the season started in April.
The beginning of the season was a time for the team to gel together and learn how to play as a team.  The team was competitive in most of the games and won quite a few. Once May hit, the team started coming together much better. The Streamwood May Sling tournament was in the beginning of May, and the team received their first trophy for third place. The rest of May and June the team continued to grow playing in many competitive tournaments as well as a tough KCBL league.

The season ended by playing in the end of year KCBL tournament.  The team had a number 5 seed and had to play the number 4 seeded St. Charles. The first game was won by a score of 16-6, so the team moved on to play Elburn. The next game was won 14-10 to send the team to the semi-finals of the tournament against the number 2 seeded Geneva. A twelve run sixth inning catapulted Velocity to a 19-10 win and a place in the championship against Yorkville. While Velocity fell short in the championship, the tournament showed just how far the team had come since September.
