Biography
LA Riptide
“I am not old... at least I do not feel old. That notion changed quickly upon my first visit to Velocity Sports Performance. I am not unfamiliar with elite athletic training- I graduated from Princeton University with three Ivy League lacrosse titles and two national titles, including a 32-game winning streak as well as an undefeated senior season; it is simply that the techniques and sciences of competitive athletic training have advanced tenfold, especially since I graduated..... In 1997.
I first began playing lacrosse when I was six years old; I have competed with and against the sports greatest athletes, however, our college team was a cut above the rest. Several qualities led to our tremendous successes, including elite athleticism and intelligence, but also good old fashioned hard work and the proper guidance from world class trainers who engaged us with superior strength and conditioning programs. Unfortunately, the story does not end here. Athletic training firmly grounded in scientific research focused on the anatomy, physiology, and mechanics of the human body are constantly evolving. I am almost embarrassed to say that cutting edge training techniques employed during our undefeated senior season (ancient times in the eyes of today’s younger players!) are now, sadly, obsolete.
It was with great trepidation that I received the news that professional lacrosse (MLL- Major League Lacrosse) would be expanding to California! I believed I was still talented enough to play in the league, but I needed to rededicate myself to get back into top form and condition for the tryouts. That’s when I first contacted Velocity sports. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine I would do some of the exercises that were introduced to me here at Velocity. However, after the first few workouts, I could visibly see and feel progress that I have never experienced in my previous 25 years of athletic competition! Many of these new techniques focused on explosiveness, and I could feel my body getting stronger with each workout. Not only were some of the drills foreign to me, but to be honest, they also seemed a little on the zany side. It was only after several workouts that I realized the long range goals of these drills were to teach proper technique and maximum efficiency. All of the exercises were intended to address specific needs- whether it is intended to maximize quickness from a stand still position, to proper hip rotation while maintaining top-speed, or getting the most efficient cardiovascular workout tailored to your specific sport. Combined with the professional knowledge and experience of the Velocity coaches, I could feel my confidence boost as every aspect of my training was specifically addressed. The scope of their knowledge was the single greatest reason I was able to return to form, to once again feel like I was achieving my athletic potential. The overriding theories behind Velocity make this endeavor worthwhile; however it is the coaches’ attitudes, dedication and knowledge which make it a special place. Each and every of my curious inquiries were received with an adequate and enlightening answer. Without hesitation, I would recommend Velocity Sports Performance to all athletes, young and old, who are aspiring to maximize their capabilities; my only regret is that I did not learn of Velocity earlier in my career.”
