How To Choose a Training Facility

By Erin Stone Dimry
October 15, 2009
The world of youth sports has advanced dramatically in the last ten years.  Today’s young athletes have specialized sports training facilities at their disposal; a service that used to be exclusive to professional athletes.  These sports training facilities can be extremely beneficial to the development of young athletes that no longer participate in developmentally specific physical education.  The key to taking advantage of this new opportunity is identifying which training facilities and speed coaches can provide the injury prevention and improvement that young athletes need.  Here are a few tips that will help you make an educated decision when choosing a facility:

It’s Never Too Early To Reduce Your Risk of Injury…

By Erin Stone Dimry
October 23, 2008
Numerous studies suggest that 1 in 100 high school female athletes will suffer an ACL injury.  The number dramatically increases to 1 in every 10 collegiate female players.  It is a safe bet that the majority of teen soccer players have witnessed an ACL injury and seen first hand the devastation.  Because 70% of all ACL injuries involve no contact, the odds are you’ve watched a teammate simply plant their foot and then collapse in pain.  In the absence of a definitive cause for ACL injuries, doctors have identified a number of risk factors, some of which can be significantly reduced.  Now more than ever, it is important for parents and athletes to take ownership of their own health and safety. This article is intended to empower each and every athlete by providing information on how ACL injuries happen and how they can be avoided.

What Will You Invest In Next Year

By Erin Stone Dimry
December 04, 2009
As a mom I spend a lot of time teaching the concept of cause and effect.  If you touch the stove, you'll burn your finger.  If you hurry through your homework, you'll make mistakes.  As my kids get older, that mantra has evolved a bit into what I call "Life Economics;" the concept of a return on investment.  Invest time in a research paper, receive a good grade in return.  Invest time in sports practice, win a state championship in return.  Just as my husband and I try to teach the concept of investment to our kids, we realize it applies also to us.  When it comes to our kids we have a goal in mind; a desired outcome.  We want to produce empathetic, hardworking, thoughtful individuals who are themselves willing to invest in their future and those around them.  We choose to introduce each of our children to sports because we believe there is no better venue to teach these lessons.
