Biography
Windes ranked eighth on the Tour in digs (5.17 per game) in 2006 and she finished the 2005 season ranked eighth in digs (576), despite playing the second-fewest matches of anyone in the top 20 in that category.
Windes was a middle blocker at Mira Costa High School, where she was named MVP of the Ocean League in 1991 and 1992. Was an outside hitter at Pepperdine, leaving the school ranked in the top 10 in both aces and digs. She received a major in public relations and a minor in creative writing. She studied for a year at Heidleberg University in Germany, and published several short stories and poems.
After college she represented herself and toured Europe alone to find a team to play for, eventually got picked up as a setter but over course of five seasons played all positions. Played indoors in Switzerland for two seasons and Spain for three. Also played on the English beach tour, being crowned queen of the beach in 2000, and played on Spain's pro beach tour, finishing as high as fifth.
She coached boys and girls youth teams in all cities she lived in overseas and taught English part time. Traveled extensively and participated in numerous extreme sports all throughout Europe (bungee, skydiving, para gliding, climbing/repelling, canyoning, snowboarding/skiing the Alps). Returned to the States in 2002 to get her teaching credential at Chapman University and now teaches Spanish at Palos Verdes High School. Learned German, Swiss German and Spanish during her travels.
