The S.P.E.E.D. (Sports Performance Education and Exercise Development) committee is made up of Sports Performance Directors from across the country.  Its members represent the highest levels of professionalism, knowledge, experience, as well as tenure within the Velocity Sports Performance coaching network.  Members help ensure Velocity Sports Performance stays on the cutting edge of performance training through their participation in the development of programming and evolution of coaching operations.  This committee is instrumental in keeping the network of 700+ coaches engaged, motivated, and passionate about being a part of the largest provider of sports performance training in the world.
 

Ryan Massimo - Southeast Region 
Coach Massimo is in charge of all Sports Performance Training and Coaches at the Ashburn Center. Prior to joining the Ashburn team, Massimo was at Duke University where he was the Olympic Sports Strength and Conditioning Coordinator. In this capacity, he supervised and motivated over 300 athletes competing in 15 of the Blue Devil Olympic Sports including baseball, soccer, volleyball, rowing, golf, tennis, lacrosse, wrestling, cross-country, track and fencing.  Massimo is a native of Sarasota,FL and graduated with a BS in Exercise and Sports Science from East Carolina University, where he was also Captain of their baseball team. Out of ECU, Ryan played professionally with the Atlanta Braves. He then worked as the Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Cincinnati Reds' double A affiliate Chattanooga Lookouts. Massimo is a recognized Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist from the CSCCA, a Certified Club Level Coach with the United States Weightlifting Assocation as well as a Certified SPARQ Trainer.  He currently serves as the Vice-Chairman on the Velocity Sports Performance SPEED Committee.  Massimo resides in Centreville,VA with his wife Courtney and son Logan.
 
  

Sean Donellan - Northeast Region 
Coach Donellan joined Velocity Sports Performance with over 15 years of experience in the performance enhancement, athletic training and fitness fields. During his career he has had the opportunity to work with elite athletes from the NHL, NFL, NCAA, AFL, Professional Figure Skating, and winter Olympians from the last 3 games. Some of the athletes he has trained include Team USA and NY Islander goaltender Rick Dipietro, Team Canada and Vancouver Canuck goaltender Roberto Luongo, NY Giants Defensive End Justin Tuck, NY Giants Running Back Ryan Grant, former Notre Dame Cornerback Carlos Campbell, and Olympic Figure Skating Silver Medalist Sasha Cohen.
 
Prior to coming to Velocity Sports Performance Coach Donellan spent 7 seasons with the New York Islanders as the Strength and Conditioning Coach and Assistant Athletic Trainer. During his time there he founded Donellan Sports Performance, worked as a consultant for the New York Dragons Arena Football team and the New York Apple Core Junior Hockey Program. He also spent 2 years as the Performance Enhancement Director at the Ice House in Hackensack NJ. He has been a presenter for the NSCA, NATA, Professional Hockey Athletic Trainers Society, USA Hockey, and US Figure Skating Association.  
 
Coach Donellan received his B.S. in Movement Science from William Paterson University, and is certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association and the National Athletic Trainers Association. 
  

Chris Powell - Midwest Region 
Chris Powell received a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science with a Minor in Human Nutrition from Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. Upon completion of his Bachelor’s he received his Master’s of Science from Indiana University in Physical Education with an emphasis on Exercise Science.  
 
While pursuing his undergraduate degree from Butler, he began working at Healthplex Sports Club in Indianapolis. There he was given the opportunity to train both the general population as a personal trainer and to train athletes of all ages for sports performance training. He quickly began to realize that his passion was training athletes. This passion was solidified during his last semester in graduate school when he did a graduate internship with his alma mater Butler University as a Strength & Conditioning Coach.  
 
At the completion of his Masters program, Chris was given the unique opportunity to work with a premier club diving team in Indianapolis. As the Director of Strength & Conditioning for the Indianapolis Starz Diving Club, he was in charge of all aspects of the clubs performance and strength training. As the Director of Strength & Conditioning for the Indianapolis Starz he was able to work with the divers and consult at the 2004 US Diving Olympic Team Trials in St. Charles, MO.  
 
Chris wanted to pursue his passion of working with athletes. Still training at Healthplex Sports Club, he was given permission to create and implement a sports performance program he named the Healthplex Sports Performance Academy.  
 
After being employed at Healthplex Sports Club for just over 7 years, he heard about Velocity Sports Performance and became intrigued to learn more. 

After learning more about Velocity Sports Performance and pursuing the interest, Chris and his wife Molly opened a Velocity Sports Performance in the greater Indianapolis area of Carmel.   
 
Chris’s experiences in strength & conditioning and performance training go beyond that with Olympic Divers such as Justin Wilcock and Matt Bricker. Chris has trained numerous collegiate football, baseball, volleyball and soccer players. Chris has also trained a wide variety of collegiate football players preparing them for the NFL Draft or their respective Pro-Day testing. Among the local professional athletes Chris has worked with former Indianapolis Colts and St. Louis Rams wide receiver Terrance Wilkins and local race car driving legend Chuck Gurney Jr.  
 
Chris has been a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist by the National Strength and Conditioning Association since 2003 and has also been certified by USA Weightlifting as a Level 1 Club Coach since 2006.
  

Will Lawrence - South Region 
After competing in track & field for Abilene Christian University as a decathlete, Will earned his BS in Kinesiology emphasizing in nutrition and health promotions from the University of North Texas.  He is also a member of the collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association and working toward his USA weightlifting certification.
 
Coach Lawrence joined Velocity Sports Performance in Highland Park, TX in April of 2004 after serving as a Strength & Conditioning Coach for five years at Southern Methodist University where he designed and implemented speed, strength and agility programs for men’s and women’s soccer, swimming and diving, track, basketball and rowing.  Will also served as a director in the Dallas/ Fort Worth metroplex for Skyhawks Sports Academy teaching sport specific movement and skill for children ages 7 to 13 years of age.   
 
During his years at SMU, Will worked with Olympic athletes from over 10 countries in both track & field and swimming events.  Through SMU men’s soccer, Coach Lawrence now has ex-players playing in both the MLS and English Premiere Leagues.  Over a dozen teams in both the NFL and the NBA have players that have worked with Will while preparing for the pros or in the off season.  Since opening Velocity Sports Performance in Highland Park the facility has helped send 15 athletes to division I sports programs and over 30 to division II & III.   
 
Throughout his years as a coach of athletes from every sport and every level, Coach Lawrence has found a home at Velocity Sports Performance where he can use his wide knowledge of sports performance to help prepare the next generation of great athletes.
  

Brent Callaway - West Region 
Brent Callaway joined Velocity Sports Performance in 2003 as a Sports Performance Coach in Raleigh, N.C. and went on to open a new Velocity training center in Highland Park, Tex.  Today, he is the Sports Performance Director at Velocity Sports Performance in Carlsbad, Calif. Through his experiences at each of the Velocity centers, Brent has had the opportunity to work with athletes spanning a variety of professional sports. Brent’s athletes include Kevin Dilworth, a world ranked long jumper; Daniel Coats, the strongest tight end in the 2007 NFL Combine; Danielle Slayton, a 1999 World Cup champion; and John Rodriguez, a 2006 World Series champion.  
 
Brent was a high school All American in track and field and later became a five-time ACC Champion pole vaulter in track and field and a seven-time All ACC Athlete during his time at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Due to his strong leadership qualities and great work ethic, Brent was voted captain of the Tar Heels track team his senior year of competition.   
 
Brent is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and holds SPARQ, USAW and Dartfish certifications. Originally from Odessa, Tex., home of the famed “Friday Night Lights”, Brent now resides in Vista, Calif. He and his wife own a San Diego-based public relations agency, Bolt PR, and enjoy being an active part of their local community.

Ken Vick - At Large
Coach Vick has over 15 years of coaching experience in Speed, Strength and Athletic performance as well as weightlifting, soccer, track and water polo.  Over the course of his career he has coached hundreds of elite athletes represented in the NFL, NBA, NHL, AVP, the last 3 Summer & Winter Olympic Teams and over 50 NCAA Division I and NAIA schools.  As a sport coach in Olympic weightlifting, he has coached lifters all the way from their introduction to the sport and taken them up to the US team and World level.  
 
Prior to coming to Velocity Sports Performance, Coach Vick headed Performance Edge, which has served elite and youth athletes in the South Bay for over 9 years.  He served as the Western U.S. Director of Sports Performance for HealthSouth, and has worked extensively in both sports performance and sports medicine settings.  He served as assistant strength coach for the Los Angeles Kings of the NHL, head strength coach for the Los Angeles Avengers of the AFL and the Long Beach Ice Dogs of the IHL.   
 
Coach Vick’s expertise has been relied on by numerous sports organizations including USA Weightlifting where he was a member of the 2000 Jr. World Championship staff, as well as NIKE Basketball, Hockey and SAQ, the Los Angeles Clippers, Michael Jordon’s Senior Flight School, the AVP and the West Coast Sports Medicine Foundation.  He has lectured nationally and locally for sports organizations and the National Strength & Conditioning Association.  
 
Coach Vick has held certifications from ACSM, NSCA, ACE and USAW.  He earned his Bachelor’s degree from Columbia College and has completed graduate studies in Biomechanics and Motor Control at Long Beach State.
