Jamie Stein
Ardsley Middle School
Jamie Stein is a 13 year old eighth grader at Ardsley Middle School. Jamie plays golf, tennis, softball and has been skiing since she could walk. For the last four years she has been a member of the Hunter Mountain Racing Team and has competed in Slalom and Giant Slalom in the Rip Van Winkle conference of the New York State Ski Racing Association. This year, as an eighth grader, she wanted to compete on the varsity ski team run jointly by Ardsley High School and Solomon Schecter High School. In order to be considered, she needed to pass a physical fitness test. She was concerned about her ability to accomplish the required run and long jump because she is all of 80 pounds and 4 foot 10 tall. After a few weeks at Velocity she passed the required tests and was asked to join the team. Jamie intends to continue with her training at Velocity to build her core and to increase her agility which should translate to quicker edge change and faster finishes on the ski slopes this winter.
