Jamie Stein
Ardsley Middle School
Jamie Stein is a 13 year
old eighth grader at
Ardsley Middle School. Jamie plays golf, tennis, softball and has been
skiing since she could walk. For the last four years she has been a
member of the Hunter Mountain Racing Team and has competed in Slalom and
Giant Slalom in the Rip Van Winkle conference of the New York State Ski
Racing Association. This year, as an eighth grader, she wanted to
compete on the varsity ski team run jointly by Ardsley High School and
Solomon Schecter High School. In order to be considered, she needed to
pass a physical fitness test. She was concerned about her ability to
accomplish the required run and long jump because she is all of 80
pounds and 4 foot 10 tall. After a few weeks at Velocity she passed the
required tests and was asked to join the team. Jamie intends to
continue with her training at Velocity to build her core and to increase
her agility which should translate to quicker edge change and faster
finishes on the ski slopes this winter.

Christine
Hyland
The Ursuline School
Christine Hyland is a 9th grader at The
Ursuline School, where she participates and excels in the sport of basketball. Through her
dedication to excellence, this year she has the esteemed honor of being
one of the youngest members of the Varsity A Basketball team. Her
achievement is being recognized by Velocity because traditionally
freshmen typically do not make the Varsity A team since these spots are
customarily reserved for advanced players. Christine not only excels on
the court, but her efforts shine through in the classroom by being
considered a leader in her 9th grade class academically.
Before The Ursuline School she played for Our Lady of Sorrows and The Lady Knicks AAU travel team which competes from spring through late summer. Christine believes undoubtedly that Velocity has not only improved her quickness and strength on the court, but she is now able to compete with a higher level of confidence when she faces her opponents. She is a very dedicated athlete, and her diligence while training with us since June has without a doubt proven that hard work does in fact pay off!!

Andrew Gomez
We are extremely pleased to
announce that the
athlete of the
month is the dedicated and hard working Andrew Gomez. Andrew is a Junior
football player at Port Chester HS where he is considered one of the
anchors of
their defensive line. Through training at Velocity, Andrew credits his
increase
in overall explosiveness and speed to the countless hours of great
coaching
that Nnamdi, Hendrick and Chris have given him. Andrew is an exceptional student who
aspires to one day play for the Nittany Lions of PSU, but until that day
comes
he has vowed to continue his diligence in the pursuit of excellence.
