Speed and Strength Training Area

Champlin, MN - November 23, 2011 - Velocity Sports Performance, specializing in advanced sports performance training for athletes of all ages and skill levels, today announced the grand opening of its newest location in partnership with M1 Volleyball in Bloomington, MN. Located at 1701 W 94th Street, Suite 275, Bloomington is the latest of over 65 facilities to open nationwide, making Velocity Sports Performance one of the fastest growing sports performance franchises in the country. Classes will officially begin on Monday, November 28th.

Velocity Sports Performance defines sports performance training and has built a business devoted to training athletes in every sport, at all ages and all skill levels. Athletes of any caliber can realize their potential through advanced training programs, scientifically designed to maximize human sports performance. Velocity Sports Performance offers athletes from age eight through adult, semi-private and team-based sports performance training designed to help them increase speed, power and agility, while reducing the risk of sports-related injuries.

At Velocity Sports Performance only the best coaches are hired. Velocity Sports Performance requires its coaches to have a Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science or a related field, and to hold a current certification through a nationally accredited organization such as the National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA). Additionally, training in small groups allows more personal one-on-one attention between coach and athlete, which ensures that each athlete will be able to get the instructions they need in order to improve.

Velocity Sports Performance enjoys strategic relationships with nationally respected organizations such as Under Armour, Combine360, and Gatorade. The company also offers worldwide franchise opportunities and provides world-class franchise training and ongoing support.

"I'm thrilled to bring a Velocity Sports Performance training center to Bloomington," said Chris Hunt, Center Director. "We know Velocity Sports Performance will help local sports enthusiasts develop a competitive edge with regards to speed, agility and strength."

"Until now, there was an underserved market in this area in terms of age-appropriate performance training for younger athletes." says Nate Michalowski, Sports Performance Director. "It used to be that sports performance training programs were only available to professional and collegiate athletes, but today, athletes start training earlier and preparing to meet their dreams of playing elite sports. Velocity Sports Performance programs are specifically designed to give kids a foundation for reaching their greatest athletic potential in a safe and supervised environment, while putting the 'fun' back into their activities. Meanwhile, parents will see their kids' self confidence grow."

In addition to our Youth and Developmental Programs, Velocity Sports Performance offers an Adult Fitness program. Our Adult Program sessions are designed for active adults looking for a challenging training program. The Adult program is designed to actively challenge effort and coordination with 60 minute movement-based sessions. No two sessions are alike, and all are fun, fast-paced, and educational, which is unique compared to a traditional gym-based workout. The result is an increase in overall fitness as well as improved metabolism, body composition, and exercise technique.

Velocity Trains First Round NFL Draft Athletes By Velocity Sports Performance
April 29, 2011
Velocity Sports Performance is excited to have trained four of the top athletes selected in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft on Thursday, April 28th. Velocity trained athletes, represented by Athletes First, include the number two overall pick, Von Miller (Denver Broncos) – a Velocity customer since the 7th grade. Jake Locker, the 8th overall pick (Tennessee Titans), Ryan Kerrigan the 16th overall pick (Washington Redskins) and Nate Solder (New England Patriots) round out the 1st round draft class, all of whom trained with coach Ken Vick and his Velocity Sports Performance staff in the state-of-the art facilites in Orange County, CA.

Ryan Kerrigan the 16th overall pick by the Washington Redskins, said of his experience with Velocity Sports Performance, “Velocity has an excellent track record with guys going through the combine, you look at Clay Matthews, Donald Brown, guys like that – it really stood out in my mind as a place I wanted to train. They helped me prepare not only physically but mentally and I feel like I’m more prepared than ever to perform at my best.”

Nate Solder, the 17th overall selection chosen by the New England Patriots, shared why he trained with Velocity, “I chose Velocity Sports Performance to do my training because of coach Ken Vick first of all, I spoke with him and he was so knowledgeable that I knew this was the place to be.”

During their training for the upcoming NFL Draft, athletes experienced daily speed, power and strength sessions, along with personalized nutrition, physical therapy, and recovery services, position-specific work, mental training, and Combine-specific preparations for team interviews and the Wonderlic test.

Velocity Sports Performance is proud to have trained the athletes drafted on Thursday in the 1st round and are excited for the many other athletes who will be drafted in the upcoming rounds of the 2011 NFL Draft.

Friday Night Lights Football Speed and Agility Program

Presented By

Hinsdale Orthopaedics

Program Overview

Velocity Sports Performance is pleased to once again be hosting our annual Friday Night Lights (FNL) program.  Players of all ages can expect to achieve gains in first step quickness, lateral speed, explosiveness off the ball and top running speed.  Our program will be very technique driven focused on proper body position, ground strike and efficient muscle recruitment.  The program will be age appropriate and of course will vary for each age group.  Please see the individual program descriptions for Youth, Middle School and High School.  Sessions will be structured to focus on one of three key components of speed mechanics (acceleration, multi directional movement or max velocity) and all sessions will include explosive strength exercises, core and conditioning.

We have enhanced the program significantly for 2012.  Some of the improvements include:

·         We have extended the program from 6 weeks to 8 weeks without an increase in price.  This will accomplish two key objectives.  1) Those that are going on spring break and may miss a week or two or those that may miss during Easter week will continue to receive value for their enrolment fee.  2) Those that are able to attend all sessions will experience even greater gains from the training program.

·         Our presenting sponsor, Hinsdale Orthopaedics, will not only be available for the kickoff night to answer parent questions about common injuries and to discuss injury prevention strategy, Doctors from the group will also provide two free seminars during the 8 week program on topics most relevant to football players.  Parents are encouraged to attend these 45 minute seminars and of course there is no additional cost.

·         We have contracted with our friends from Seven Bridges Ice Arena to utilize the 180 by 80 foot turf field in their facility for the training.  This will provide an excellent training space with plenty of room and will allow us to increase the intensity of the program for more advanced athletes.

·         We are working with our National sponsors, Under Armour and Combine 360 to provide specific training for high school athletes planning to attend the UA/C360 Combine in Chicago or any other combine.  The high school program will include sessions specifically dedicated to improving scores on the combine tests in addition to the training benefit expected at each session.

Kickoff Night

This year's kickoff night features Chicago cornerback Charles Tillman.  Fresh off his appearance in this year's Pro Bowl, Tillman will provide a brief presentation, take questions from the attendees and will participate at one of the training stations during the kickoff night to assist in demonstrating certain drills or exercises.  In addition, Mr. Tillman will autograph a number of items that will be included in a raffle drawing that night and  take a picture with each group of athletes as they rotate to the station where he is providing demonstrations.

Athletes may attend the kickoff night without enrolling in the Friday Night Lights Program.  Some may choose to participate in the demonstrations before deciding whether or not to enrol.  If an athlete decides to enrol in the Friday Night Lights program the kickoff night fee will be waived (if enrol before the kickoff night) or will be credited against the fee for the program (if enrol at or subsequent to the kickoff night).  Athletes that do enrol before the kickoff night will enjoy preferred seating and extra raffle tickets to improve their chances to win autographed items and other prizes.

All athletes attending the kickoff night will receive an event T-shirt, coupons from local merchants and sponsors, a raffle ticket for the drawing and will also be able to sample Gatorade product during the evening.

Please download a registration form and email or fax to Velocity Sports Performance to reserve your spot for the kickoff night and/or the program.

Improvement....Guaranteed By Velocity Sports Performance
July 26, 2007
To prove results to our athletes and parents, we have each athlete ages 12 and up take five tests, before and after completing 24 sessions:

Vertical Jump
This standing two-foot jump test is the best test for explosive power.  To improve performance in this area, we teach athletes correct jumping technique and emphasize explosive movements using equipment such as Olympic platforms, box jumps and medicine balls.

Standing Broad Jump
This is also a great test of power, evaluating an athlete’s ability to properly translate his or her body horizontally. To improve performance in this area, we use power exercises similar to those used for the vertical jump, while additionally emphasizing proper take-off and landing technique.

Pro-Agility (5-10-5)
This tests an athlete’s agility, or ability to change direction quickly and under control.  As such, this evaluation requires the athlete to move 5 yards, then sprint 10 yards in the opposite direction, and then sprint 5 yards back to the starting point.  To improve agility, we use lateral movement drills and exercises that emphasize increased leg strength.

Three Cone
There are tight turns associated with this test, and the multi-directional component is significant.  The test requires athletes to sprint around L-shaped pattern cones, and weave through the cones on the return to the starting point.  Exercises that emphasize balance and core stability, as well as ankle and hip placement will help athletes perform tighter turns and learn how to accelerate around corners.

10, 20 and 40 Yard Dash
These tests evaluate both acceleration speed and overall quickness.  By performing the tests at 10, 20 and 40 yard increments, we can better determine where the athlete’s weakest running area is, and customize the sprint training program accordingly.

Successful execution of these tests is consistent with success in athletics – so when athletes improve in their performance of these tests, they will improve on the court or the field.
